Japanese geisha meets British rock at the Dsquared2 Fall Winter 16 Men’s fashion show in Milan on Tuesday morning (19/01), showcasing leather, denim and a wide range of graphics and prints.
Invitations in hand (and after a much needed morning espresso), we walked through the Scuoula Militare Teulie to the pavilion with the other fashionistas and were seated ready for the show. A life-sized bamboo forest set the scene for the Japanese-inspired street wear collection.
Signature Dsquared2 styling, shirts casually tied around the waist, reinforced with punk check kilts, was on full display, as the models hit the runway. The collection had a distinct Japanese character, while simultaneously drawing from British punk embroidery, making it an overall unconventional hybrid collection, titled #mangapunk.
We were transported from punk rocker to Japanese Geisha, with sportswear shaped supersized bomber jackets, in kimono inspired fabrics and embroidery, confidently worn by models to the beat of Turning Japanese by the Vapours. The models, resembled Japanese warriors and ninja fighters, showcased the latest edgy designs.
Standouts for the #BS4F team, were the large parkas, dotted with manga graphics, white denim, and black and silver metallics…perhaps paying homage to the masterminds behind the brand, Dean and Dan Caten’s Canadian background, enduring through those long, cold Canadian winters.
Fierce tailors in their own right, the twins closed the show and reminded us of their signature tailoring through Shibuya punk elements and colliding cultures. Add in a few hiking boots, cool backpacks and dark sunglasses, Dsquared2 showcased an eclectic mix of men’s fashion for the guy who has cemented himself as a leader of the pack!
Dsquared2 proved to us that, yet again, they are the kings of dishevelled cool!
