• The people shaping Fashion: Imran Amed

If you are reading this article, chances are you love fashion just as much as I do. However, the fashion world that I love, is not (just) about those breath-taking embroideries, the colourful textiles or the bold make up looks on the red carpet. I believe that there is so much beauty in taking your time to understand the complexity of this world, instead of passively admiring it. What does it take for a sustainable brand to become successful? How can online brands thrive? What was Gucci’s recipe for success? Every time my mind comes up with one of these questions, I run to my laptop and type three simple…

  • Your go-to guide for a career in the fashion industry: Fashion Buying

We often hear of fashion buying being named as one of the most prestigious and sought-after positions in the industry. But do we actually know what fashion buying is? Coated with the allure of mystery, fashion show invites and samples, fashion buying is not one uniform profession described as choice of what department stores will offer during a given season. It is in fact a very complex career choice, which requires not only interest in fashion, but also business acumen, analytical skills, and most importantly, creativity. Although the tasks of a fashion buyer also include monitoring stock and fashion forecasts, or researching the market, it is the understanding of art…

As any fashion lover knows, fashion is not only about brand labels and dressing up pretty; fashion is a reflection of global flows around us including cultural, technological, political happenings. The industry tries to reflect these on the runways. This is what “zeitgeist” is; this word literally means the spirit of time. Trends are all about capturing zeitgeist. • Coachella: where fashion outweighs music

During the past few weeks social networks were loaded with pictures of bloggers, models, actors and singers having the time of their life at Coachella. Images of crazy parties by the pool, floating flamingos and Californian sunsets made us all envious, admit it. What left me a little concerned  is that I knew almost everything about who attended the festival and what they wore, but nearly nothing about the festival itself… How many of us actually knew who the performers were? My point is: Coachella has become a festival that mainly gravitates around  fashion  instead of music, while this latter is now only a nice background .Try to google “Coachella”…

  • Decades of Fashion: the Thirties

Here we are with our third appointment of “Decades of Fashion”: today we will take a look at the 30s. After the flourishing growth that occurred in the States during the 20s, in 1929 the country had to face the Stock Market crash and the following crisis known as the Great Depression. At the beginning of the new decade, almost 15 million Americans were unemployed and the situation remained critical until 1932, when Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected president. He came up with the New Deal, a set of programs that allowed the government to provide jobs for the unemployed therefore helping the development of a stable economy.        In the…

  • The Italian shoe Industry in a fast changing world – a BS4F event

At one of our latest BS4F conference we had as guests Eugenio Morselli, CEO of Giuseppe Zanotti Design and Roberta Benaglia, CEO of Style Capital SGR e Golden Goose, who explained to us the main dynamics that occur in the shoe industry. In Italy this branch whose success is rooted in great savoir faire, is worth around 14 billions of euro and it gives work to 77 thousands of people. Both Giuseppe Zanotti and Golden Goose are luxury brands that developed in the last 20 years and in little time managed to export what they themselves defined respectively “rock” and “pop” shoes all over the world. But what is the…

  • Fashion is Garbage

When the final model walked down the Moschino runway in Milan Fashion Week 2017 the only thing that was left on the audience’s faces was a shocked expression with jaws dropped to the floor. Brand’s creative director Jeremy Scott created a provoking collection, as always, that was made up of extraordinary materials such as cardboard, Kleenex boxes, packing tape, toilet paper and garbage bags. This unconventional use of materials was not only to draw media’s attention; Scott had a message. The collection received many negative backlashes as anyone can imagine. Many critics were not happy with Scott playing with fashion; many said the collection was “a joke”. The highlights of…

  • The ROMAntic class of Laura Biagiotti F/W 2017-2018.

A business woman in her forties, walking in Piazza di Spagna in her leisure, surrounded by sunset colours, ancient buildings and chic boutiques. She is proud and imperious, with her hair tied back from her face, wearing a pair of sunglasses and stunning cozy, but stylish garments. This is the image inspired by the new Laura Biagiotti’s collection, which can be defined as classic, chic, cozy, romantic but strong at the same time. A collection made up of various elements, textures, lengths, colours, but with a vena of cohesion linking all the pieces. In the space of the Piccolo Teatro Studio Melato of Milan, the runway held on the 26th…
