Marcelo Burlon: Crowded County of Milan
At the 2017 Fall Fashion Show of Marcelo Burlon County of Milan we took our places in front of the runway and there, in the County, in the crowd and were stunned by the strength of the collection. The runway was held at The Mall, a multi-functional space in Porta Nuova. For the occasion they had placed a rhombus-shaped catwalk, surrounded by walls that switched from red to white, inside the hall while an orchestra played wonderful classic music. It was in this unusual atmosphere, full of contrasts between modern and classic, that this powerful, aggressive and stylish collection was shown. Black, red, white and hunter green. Jackets, parkas, sweaters,…

Gianni Versace
Today, 2nd December, 70 years ago, a genius of Fashion was born. His creativity and originality allowed him and his Maison to enter the Olympus of the greatest names of Fashion. However, as we all know, creativity and madness are just two sides of the same coin. And it is curious that it was this latter, the evil twin, madness, that caused Gianni Versace’s death on 15th July 1997, in his Miami Beach’s villa. Anyway, this piece is not meant to talk about his murder, still covered in mystery, but to celebrate the existence of an artist, whose life has contributed to write a page of the Fashion History Diary. …

E-commerce: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.
A constructive moment of discussion. This is what the event held on Wednesday, 23th November at Bocconi University, hosting Andrea Panconesi – CEO of Luisa Via Roma – and Paolo Mascio – President Online Flagship Stores of Yoox Net-A-Porter Group -, chaired by Emanuela Prandelli – LVMH Associate Professor at Bocconi University – and organised by Bocconi Students for Fashion, represented. It was a moment of discussion between the guests, between them and the students, and also between two fields that, as Professor Prandelli claimed, are traditionally considered to be very apart one from the other: luxury fashion and digitalization. Moreover, it was held at Bocconi University, a place where,…

The Importance Of Being Social
Just a few years after the Second World War, the director of Harper’s Bazaar America telegraphed “The New Look is born!” during a Christian Dior défilé. Today, Fashion travels all over the world in just one second, allowing people to be in the front row of every fashion show while in the comfort of their home. Thanks to Social Networks there are no more secrets about what happens during castings, catwalks or backstage: is this new type of communication positive or is it just something that is diminishing the value and exclusiveness of fashion? Diane Von Furstenberg proposed to divide the show in two parts: the first one dedicated to authorized…

A chat over dinner with Alberto Baldan, CEO of La Rinascente
You may think that I am exaggerating, and to some extent it is true. I did not dine privately with Mr Baldan, but this is how the evening felt like to me. When I saw the event promoting a tasty aperitivo with the CEO of the most famous department store in Italy, I thought of one of those networking events where the guest awkwardly speaks for 5 minutes and then has to rush away. But I couldn’t be more wrong: organised by Hub Giovani, a group of inspired young students and professionals who get together to discuss about work, culture, innovation and much more, the aperitivo with Baldan was so enjoyable…

Il Nuovo Gucci: in the Backstage of the Italian Empire’s Rebirth.
We’re in December 2014, and the mutli-brand luxury group Kering announces the departure of Patrizio di Marco and Frida Giannini, respectively Gucci’s CEO and artistic director. This wave of departures from Gucci comes as no surprise, and marks the beginning of a fresh start for the Florentine brand. Set up in 1921 by Guccio Gucci and acquired in 1999 by the ancestor of Kering, PPR, the double G brand was, at the time, going through a rough patch. 2013 has proved to be a downturn in the brand’s sales, a situation that worsened in 2014, with lower sales volume of 1.8% at 3,49 billion euros. Considering that Gucci is the…

The key actors of those years where those who were born after the World War II, also called the baby boomers. Having reached the teen age, the joyful, lighthearted youth embraced the pleasures of life without the knowledge of the dreads of past wars. They…

Brunello Cucinelli – “Beauty Will Save the World”
“Balance sheets are not saved through lives.” It is with this quote by Adriano Olivetti that the conference held on October 18th, organised by Gianfranco De Nigris, Roberto Montaruli, Bocconi Students for Fashion and B.lab Bocconi, and hosting Brunello Cucinelli, led off. The main focus of the event was sustainability and, as Francesco Perrini – full Professor of Management at Bocconi University and Senior Professor of Corporate Finance & Real Estate at SDA Bocconi – said, on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), or better in this case, to a return to the concept of Community. Introducing Brunello Cucinelli, Professor Perrini described him as a revolutionist, promoter of an alternative entrepreneurial path.…
