This time last week some of the BS4F members and I were fortunate enough to be invited to attend Decoded Fashion, a two day long conference focusingon digital and technological advances in the fashion world. Although my first time attending the conference myself, it was the conference’s third time in Milan, having also being held in New York, Tokyo and London. We were welcomed at the beautiful Hotel Magna Pars where we had the chance to network with people ranging from the digital, marketing and fashion fields from brands coming from all over the world. For me, someone coming from the fashion world and having no prior knowledge of digital…

The Woman I Wanted To Be: a Conversation with Diane Von Furstenberg.
If you had the chance to participate in yesterday’s conference at Bocconi University, not only would you had the unique opportunity to hear Diane Von Furstenberg speak: but you would have gained a lot more. If you ever happen to loose your motivation, revisit this day. Cherish her words, write them down on a scrap of paper and make them your own life motto. “I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I always knew the woman I wanted to be”. That was the thread of the conversation with the designer, entrepreneur, philanthropist and –as she cheerfully points out- grandmother. Diane started her inspirational talk sitting on the edge of the…

The Met Gala: The Good, The Bad and The RIHANNA!
On Monday night, our favorite fashionistas gathered to attend the coveted annual Met Ball in NYC. This year’s theme was China: Through the Looking Glass and people definitely did not disappoint. Here are a few of my picks for looks to be remembered. Some are amazing and others are extremely boring. I would like to add that in the spirit of positivity, there will not be a worst dressed. For individuals whose style was a little challenged this year, I shall simply wish them better luck next year. Without further ado, the gowns!

Roberto Capucci: elegance, beauty, inspiration
The master of the Italian elegance, Roberto Capucci, returns to the stage with a prêt-a-porter collection. Everyone thinks about Roberto Capucci by referring to his historical Haute Couture collection, which has become internationally famous for its ability to make a woman always fascinating and seductive. As he says: “Elegance is seduction, charme, mystery. It is not pure appearance”. Last week, for women’s fashion week in Milan, he launched a totally innovative collection that, in its modern style, never forgets fundamental rules of the Italian elegance. Contemporary sweaters, suits, shirts and coats mix high quality textiles and research of colors with them of past icons. Roberto Capucci started to draw dream…

The Business of Fashion Week
Hey, it’s fashion week! Some of you are probably thinking ‘Oh god, another week of brilliantine, armies of models, maps in hand and crazy people strutting down the streets convinced they are THE new fashion icon’. Well, I can’t say that this won’t happen, but I can assure you, fashion is a lot more.

Suit 101: The white shirt – camicie su misura
Note: This is part of an ongoing series known as Suit 101. A white shirt can create emotion, even if it is just a shirt. And if we look at shirt-making as an artform and an act of craftsmanship, then we began to sense the possibilities of making this staple…something special. – Sonya Glyn Nicholson, Parisian Gentlemen Bespoke shirts are no stranger to the man’s world — akin to how stilettos are no stranger to a woman’s world (Feminists may argue otherwise but let’s not get too deep here). Like shoes, a dress shirt — with its various permutations of patterns and colours — can give the entire outfit a fresh look. This could explain…

Suit 101: The types of suit
Note: Suit 101 is a series dedicated on the finer side of menswear. Last week, we spoke of the suit as if there exists only one kind of suit. In fact, there are different kinds of suits that some guys may not have even heard or know about. As per usual, team BS4F will take you through an educational journey to further furnish your knowledge about suits, starting from… 1. The single breasted suit The single breasted suit is the most common form of suit. Its ubiquity lies in its practical nature — after all, it is much better to fiddle with one row of buttons than two, no? There…

Suit 101: Vitale Barberis Canonico
When I hang out with my guy friends, the first thing I always — always — observe in a guy is the shoes, followed by the watch and belt. If they have a formal wear on, the white shirt, the suit, the way their trousers drape around their ankles, socks (it matters!), cufflinks (if any) and the choice of adornment (pocket squares, ties, bows etc). Yes, I am that anal despite growing up in a country that does not have a strong suit culture. It did not help that I lived in Milan for almost six months, and have a strong interest towards menswear, particularly the suit. When it comes to the suit, the…

Painting Pantone
2014 has barely bid us goodbye, yet talks of 2015 trends have sprung alive. And no surprise, Pantone — American based provider of universal colour systems — have named their colour of the year: Marsala. “A naturally robust, earthy wine red, Marsala enriches our minds, bodies and soul” – cr: Pantone.com Last year, Pantone had “Radiant Orchid” — a curious blend of purple and pink — as colour of the year, and the year before, the ever-green “Emerald” rose as their choice (no pun intended). 50 Shades of Emerald – cr: Pantone Many (including me) wonder: what is the significance behind Pantone’s choices? What is Pantone? What makes Pantone so important? Fret shall answer these…
